Barelegs Brew

Background
Strangford Lough Brewing Company is set in an area of natural beauty and wildlife with a historical tradition going back 8000 years. The company has a range of beers associated with County Down characters such Magnus Barelegs the Viking King buried in Downpatrick less than two miles from Saint Patrick, another of the company's brands.

Barelegs Brew is named in honour of King Magnus Barelegs who reigned as King of Norway from 1093 until his death in 1103. His campaigns led to warfare in Ireland, Britain and the Isle of Man. In 1003 he raided Downpatrick to replenish supplies. He was ambushed and killed by the Ulaid, Men of Ulster.

Head Brewer's Tasting Notes
A golden ale with fresh fruit and malt fragrance. Full drinking with a subtle hoppy finish. Refreshing for a beer of this strength.

Barelegs Brew Reviews

Beer Advocate, beeradvocate.com

Pours with a light, slightly hazy golden body, light amber in colour. Slight tan head forms. Smell, slight hop aromas, some sweetness coming off. Taste, well balanced hoppy, nice herby floral hop flavour, nice malt finish. A good little brew, this one surprised me.

Pour: Good head with excellent retention and a slight amount of lacing.
Appearance: Slightly cloudy golden colour.
Smell: Very subtle sweet smell, nothing too distinct comes through.
Flavour: Subtle flavour, slight taste of fresh hay. Nice hoppy flavours. Like the smell, no real distinct flavours come through.
Overall: Quite a refreshing brew. Nicely balanced. Nice to see a local brewery producing quality beers like this one and long may it continue! Looking forward to trying more of Strangford's brews.
